One of the things I love so much about social media is people’s generosity and their willingness to share. We all know that when you give, you will receive and this principal shines through in social media and blogging communities. When creating, sharing and commenting on content your generosity will create prosperity. By sharing your knowledge, your gift(s) and valuable content, your brand will develop influence, credibility and trust. Not forgetting to mention respect. I like Zig Ziglar’s approach: You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.
Being a helper
My seven year old daughter recently asked me to describe the duties of my ‘work’. After a simplified explanation of internet marketing she said: “So you’re a helper Daddy?”. I love that idea and I have written this post to help you become a helper. If you are utilizing social media and blogging for your business, helping your target audience is a great place to start.
How can you help?
By simply communicating the stuff that you live and breath everyday you can make a huge impact on other people lives and businesses. Earlier this year I started to get to know Robert Caruso through Twitter conversations. He is a true helper. Robert was sharing content that I was interested in and was helpful for my audience. Through this we established a friendship and caught up via Google Hangouts. That led to Robert going out of his way to help me with a strategy I was working on. I’ll never forget it and now regard him as one of my best mates (even though we live 11, 745 km/ 7,300 miles away from each other). I have also become a huge brand advocate for his BundlePost social media management platform.
What’s the pay-off?
Sure, Robert and I connected because I fit neatly into his target audience and he was (and still is) VERY helpful. However as a result of Roberts generosity I make an extra effort to help contribute to his prosperity. Dictionary.com defines prosperity as a successful, flourishing, or thriving condition. I know that I am not the only one that experiences Robert’s generosity and it is very exciting to see BundlePost’s successful, flourishing, and thriving condition develop.
Being generous makes you happy
I’ve found some pretty inspirational stuff while I have been researching for this post and this TED Talk by Michael Norton suggests that generosity leads to personal happiness:
Feeling generous?

Conclusion
It doesn’t matter how much you have to give. An hour or two to write a blog post, some helpful tweets, or even a ‘How-to’ video. True generosity is giving more than you feel comfortable giving. With a generous approach to your social media marketing and blogging strategy it is inevitable that your generosity will create prosperity (for you and for others).
