Do you want to make an impact? If you are marketing your business on social media you can improve lives by marketing more than your business. A couple of weeks ago I wrote about how your generosity will create prosperity and you’ll never know the full impact of what you have to offer. By supporting worthy causes as part of your social media marketing strategy you can help make the world a better place.

I believe that when it comes to marketing your business on social media you should adopt the one in ten rule (or something like it). One post promoting your business, products, services or current priorities for every nine posts about something other than your business.
This approach helps to keep it social and no one that I know signs up for social media to be bombarded by sales messages. So what are your other nine tweets or Facebook & Google+ posts supposed to be made up of? Here’s an idea to fill a few gaps here and there. Why not help to promote a cause that you believe in? It will contribute to developing the voice of your brand, it will help earn trust and respect and has the potential to change the world.
Here are three causes that your brand can support and promote right now:
World Vision’s Typhoon Haiyan Appeal
This week’s Typhoon in the Philippines has affected more than 2 million people. World Vision (and other aid agencies) are working around the clock to provide food, aid and clean water to those who need it most.
If nothing else, please at least just re-tweet this tweet below:
“I am urging Australians to once again show their generosity to those in need” -Tim Costello Donate to #TyphoonHaiyan http://t.co/G1ybt5R8rg

The A21 Campaign
There are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in human history, with an estimated 27 million in bondage across the globe. The opposite of poverty isn’t wealth, the opposite of poverty is justice. The A21 Campaign prevents human trafficking through awareness and education.
If nothing else, please at least just re-tweet this tweet below:
Our voices against modern day slavery are loudest when they’re raised together. Find out what YOU can do to help. http://t.co/xd2nkpvPQB — The A21 Campaign (@TheA21Campaign) November 2, 2013
CredHealth
Credit card debt has reached epic proportions globally. It now affects the lives of more people than alcoholism and obesity put together. Yet the banks and financial institutions keep fueling the problem and governments continue to do next to nothing. Credhealth are a bootstrapped start-up with a real solution to help millions and millions of people who have no real options.
If nothing else, please at least just re-tweet this tweet below:
Please help us to bring an effective and affordable debt solution to the world on @indiegogo http://t.co/c48uA2OuBp THANK YOU — Michael Payne (@CredHealth) November 13, 2013
The Big Picture
Sometimes we need to take a step back from our business and social media strategies to take a look at the big picture. Your support has the potential to radically change people’s lives for the better. Social media marketing isn’t just about promoting your business. It’s about sharing stuff worth sharing and helping people. A bit of #SocialGood & #Clicktivism on your part will help others and your brand.
Charities are laying everything on the line for the causes that they believe in. Any way that your brand can support these causes will make a difference. However Dan Pallotta points out in his brilliant TED talk (below) that we need to challenge the way we think about charity.
Conclusion
I hope you can appreciate where I am coming from here:
1. Let’s work towards making the world a better place.
2. Your brand needs a voice that talks about much more than your offering.
3. We need to keep social media social
There are plenty of ways we can achieve all three of these objectives. If you would like any ideas about how you can improve lives by marketing more than your business please CLICK HERE. I always ask you to share my work at the end of my posts, but this time it could make a real impact. Please share this post for the three reasons above and because it’s the right thing to do. Thanks for reading and sharing.
