If you don’t create change then change will create you

Times are changing. They always are and always will. It’s pointless to worry about change and it is critical to embrace it and everything that it brings. Especially in business. If you don’t create change then change will create you (or your brand). Digital and social media are constantly evolving and the pace of change can even seem overwhelming. That’s definitely not a reason to ignore it though.

Change is happening

I’ve got some pretty major changes going on in my life at the moment. As you can see by this Instagram photo (above) of my car jam packed, I am in the process of relocating Social Strategies 543.8 kilometres (338 miles) south east. The actual move is kicking off an onslaught of changes to follow. So I’m grabbing the bull by the horns and shaping the change(s) as much as I can. Or at least trying to take Maya Angelou’s approach:

Change is constant

There is a lot of change in Social Media right now too. The Sydney morning Herald reports that this weeks talk of a Twitter IPO sparks a debate on the future of social media. Shelly Kramer points out some of the changes that Twitter plans to roll out as a result of the IPO in her quick blog post.

In my opinion this validates why a blog is the most important component of your social media and content marketing strategy. It’s your property. You make the rules and you can create change rather than change creating you. It also demonstrates the value of social media relationships rather than the value of any particular platform. I really enjoyed reading Pam Moore’s recent post:

The purpose of this blog post is to encourage you and help you with changes that you may have been considering for your business. Social and digital media stuff that you know you really should be doing, but haven’t really started yet. Or perhaps you started, but haven’t really done anything with yet. I’m going to have a guess at three things that are possibly on your list and include helpful links to give you a nudge.
